Contemporary Medical Acupuncture
Contemporary medical acupuncture is a treatment which utilizes needles, with or without electric stimulation, to affect nervous tissue and muscle tissue, either locally, spinal segmentally, and centrally. Stimulation of these structures with needles has been shown extensively in the research literature to reduce pain and increase function. As a result, acupuncture can be used to for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, most of which are listed in the "conditions" section of the webpage.
Laser therapy, when applied to acupuncture points, have also been shown to stimulate addiction centers in the brain, predominately the limbic system, and can help one deal with cravings such as that for food or tobacco. As a result, it can be used as a smoking cessation treatment, as well as, for weight loss.
